I did nothing except to plan for our trip to Galway. Our itinerary awarded the students free time to explore the city and the surrounding areas, so I made a note of what to see and do when I got there.
The city of Galway (Gaillimh) lies on the west coast of Ireland and is one the largest cities in Ireland. Even so, it does not come close to Dublin's size or population. Many online sites said that while the city itself had a few things to visit, it was used more as a base to tour the neighbouring countryside.
Within the city, I only wanted to see the Galway Cathedral. Outside the city, there were four main attractions that could be visited by coach or ferry: the Connemara region, the Aran Islands, the Burren region, and the Cliffs of Moher.
Every former student in this program told me to visit the Aran Islands because it was definitely worth a visit. However, the structure of our trip made it impossible to go and spend time there. We would reach Galway on Friday afternoon, and had the evening free. On Saturday, we would have a full day guided tour of the Connemara region. We had a full free day on Sunday, but most of the girls in my house wanted to spend that day to go see the Cliffs of Moher.
The islands can be reached by either ferry or flight. The ferries leave late in the morning and arrive early in the evening. The flight, while a little more expensive, leaves every hour during peak season. I didn't know if I should see the Cliffs of Moher or the Aran Islands on Sunday. I ultimately decided to see the Cliffs with everyone else and planned to visit the Aran Islands later in the month.
After I finished my research, I packed enough for three days, and went to sleep.
